This was posted on another forum which some may have seen.

I have asked the original poster to copy this and post it here to see what your thoughts are.

Having a his and hers pens order to make up this weekend got me to thinking are there woods that are considered more suitable for male and female persons? I know its just going to be down to personal taste but are there traditional his and hers woods?
My first guess would be big strong trees - oak, ash, walnut etc would be the male and the smaller (fruit?) woods - plum, cherry, laburnum, yew etc would be the female?
So two pens to make, of the same design and finish, two woods that would be obviously his and hers?
What do you think?
Oak and yew? walnut and laburnum? zebrano and cocobolo? (just some that are in the drawer already)

It is an interesting concept. A true one too I think to an extent. The pens I've sold are in that order. Dark strong woods do seem to appeal to men and vice versa for women.
Although, the ladies do seem to go nuts for acrylic. :funny:

Have to agree, was told this week by a customer that light woods are for the ladies and dark woods are for the men.

the she timbers will be more water resistant so that when she's washing the clothes in the river the board doesn't rot away... probably :funny:

Seeing as I make mostly bowls, vases, clocks and the likes I have seen woman stroking caressing my work in a very erotic manner to the point of embarrassment all made with good ol English hard woods and highly figured exotic woods the wood's that impresses them least are Sycamore & Holly I have in the past ask woman to put that down before you have an org***m and they find that hilarious

I would have thought hemlock, laburnum and yew were suited to women:devil:

I have to agree this is a valid point SHMBO says this applies to Acrylics, the blanks that are
available are clearly made by men mostly strong colors, she says if women cast blanks they would
be more pastel and softer colors i must admit she's probably right.

Good luck on this one I gave up years ago the prediction game just observe and indulge as people admire my pens, violent likes and dislikes abound. Sometimes too many choices cause confusion. Woodies experience is mine with white Corian Pens waisted shape incredible stroking touching feeling process. Corian puts some off in the winter with its cold feeling. Recently a mate up in the north of Australia captured alive a ton of Conkerberry amongst IMHO the most beautiful and precious timber in Australia looking forward to getting some in September.

Peter.
