I assume with a bandsaw you'd get a fair few pen blanks out of that though ?

Spot on Woody. In the last couple of years the price of masur birch has gone horrific and the quality has plummeted. £60 for a manky billet the size of a can of paint... No substiture for self selection at these prices. Mine is old, good stock if I say it myself.
