Due to the pyrale disease, I recently got some interesting (I mean big) boxwood. One of it has strange black marks, in fact little cracks:
I tried it on a bowl, 145x52 mm. Despite the cracks - not that long - the whole block is sturdy:
To enhance the rough side, I left two zones untouched by the gouge; I only took the bark off:
Any idea of the origin of the marks ? Frost crack ? But why do they stop on two special rings, as in first pic?
