I bought this blank with a view of turning a pen for my own use for what it cost I would never be able to sell a pen I made to recover my out lay
But thats not what it is about. Any way the company I am curently working for is one of the biggest Methyl Methacrylic producers in the World.
I work in research. There Research facility is next door to were I work so I took the blank in and showed it too them. I thought it might of been extruded but aparently not the rods acording to them are cast. Obviously the material is no longer made. When I told them how mutch I paid for it they offered to match the coulors in a modern material if I could sell it at the same price. They were obviously pulling my leg.
But they found the material really interesting and gave me some really usefull advice as to how I should go about turning drilling etc of the material.
How cool!

Actually if you’re interested in how they make the Mazzucchelli materials today then this video is really worth a watch. It’s filmed in a Wes Andersen style and shows the process for making their acetates. Unfortunately they don’t make rods for pens any more but they do supply the acetate sheets that a lot of the worlds spectacles are made from.
