OK Fair enough, but then I have to ask (perhaps for my future customers) why don't they want the clips? is it because they are desk pens? is it because they are unusual or what? I ask because occasionally I have put a fountain pen in my pocket and missed the clip and it has come undone over a journey and leaked, whereas holding it on a clip prevents that .
So what is the reasoning of 'no clip'? This is genuinely a puzzle to me.
But I was brought up many years ago when all fountain pens had clips, so I am trying to puzzle it out still despite my 69 years
I can only speak from my own anecdotal experience, but it comes down to how they are used I guess. You don't really need a pocket clip if you keep it on your desk (though they do act as useful roll stops I suppose).
The people who are buying from me tend to already have a lot of fountain pens (often dozens). So I think they have a split between clip/no clip.
I know that some store their pens in pen rolls/sleeves which removes the need for clips I guess. Similar to the way an artist rolls up their brushes at the end of the day.
Also they do get very involved with designing the pens. By the time they've chosen the material, section size and shape, barrel/cap sizes and profiles along with metal accent rings I think they may avoid adding clips as they worry that they will spoil the overall look if they choose the wrong style. Of course I can always offer alternatives but I guess it just adds an extra layer of complexity.
