Today i thought i would use Melamine for the finish on a couple of pens i turned today .. Never used it on a pen before today, even though i have had it a number of years, bought from Craft Supplies.

I can't even recall what i used it for to be honest .. :nooidea:

It took me longer to get the cap off than it did turning the pen ..

I didn’t think it was to bad, will be posting the pens up later ..

look forward to seeing the pens Jim, I used it on a pen myself the other day and it seemed to give a similar finish to the friction polish I've been using. I also went over it with a beeswax furniture polish and that seemed to give it a final nice shine

At the risk of upsetting some one somewhere:devil:

Melamine liquid Lacquer is probably the best finish I have ever used on a pen:devil:

It is far more durable than Ca.
It does not dull off with handling.

The only real problem it has is that it is applied by a Wood turner who wants results in seconds. Melamine can take up to two weeks to chemically cure, depending on temperature, but it will give a more durable finish.

From my limited experience, coats can go on pretty quickly, if you leave it to 'dry' fully you have to denib it, if you just let the solvent flash off you can go pretty fast. I have been using it recently and like it, although it does smell a bit!

I think Phil at Beaufort uses it on his pens maybe?

I also put a liberon stick over the top of it for that extra shine, it seems to work well. I have the time to let it fully cure though - I really should start trying to sell more pens!
