Milliput Slimline Pens

1st time using milliput for pens. A bit apprehensive when mixing the different colours. Very hard to judge the amount needed. All in all I'm pretty happy with the results!

I'd say at a push you'd get 4 maybe 5 blanks out of 3 packs. I made them about 20mm and about 110 long to give a bit of leeway for squaring up the ends. I've some more made after having some left over from ading rings to the outside of a bowl. I find it hard to estimate how much I need to mix. I got the 4 colours terracotta, black, white and silver gray for about £20. The same 4 from a supplier here in Ireland was costing about €36 so it works out pretty expensive. If I mixed it and wrapped around the tubes to save drilling it might save a bit but maybe not a lot.

I'd say at a push you'd get 4 maybe 5 blanks out of 3 packs. I made them about 20mm and about 110 long to give a bit of leeway for squaring up the end. If I mixed it and wrapped around the tubes to save drilling it might save a bit but maybe not a lot.

On a slimline you would not save much, but wraping something like a sierra or larger pens you would only use half the amount,I would mount the tube on the lathe with correct spacers and wet the spacers to stop it sticking and give you correct
size, then go for it , btw what did you use for the finish ??

Just a couple coats of EEE and then one coat of Shellawax polish. The polish didn't finish quite as good as it usually does on wood, so I cut it back and finished again with EEE. I'll have to a try with CA finish, never used CA for finish so am a bit apprehensive. The milliput is actually quite hard but not sure yet if it would get a bit grubby with use.

I've made up some more blanks with leftovers from some inlays on a bowl, which is still mounted on the lathe patiently waiting for me to get back to it to finish......

If you wrapped the tube with enough depth to turn back to the bushings you would get 20 x more out of three packs.
