Replying to a question of how long it was taking me to carve a ring made me realise how daft I was being init?
Although with the carving I pick it up and put down as and when so no rush and enjoyment, not that I want too but it would take an age to build up a stock this way.
At playtime I went to shed and made a little jig for the production of tart stuff, my ring size is 22 mm so a 22 mm spanner on a lump of oak worktop gimme this:

22 mm Forstner bit through a chunk o wood and sling it on making one longish spindle, turn it down to required pretty.

Part off and finish using a jam if necessary.

Bung it back on and do the next one init?

Cheers Jim, just a little play init?
The pics are crap and macro mode makes em look worse than they are.
The silver band is a beaut on the hand I am keeping that for meself init, 1.7 mm thick nice and light dunno it's on a finger it so comfy.
I parted them square and sanded the edges to round, easy on the rosewood but the oak was a bit on the thin side for any further work.
With the little experience I have had with these, made about 20 successfully lost 4 and learnt from them.
Trick is to stabilize that grain let it dry and do it again, don't use a tapered mandrel keep everything square.
Shan't be doing any more unless I get paid for them.

A pucker production line Brian. Like the " tart ring mandrel ". Must have a go, if I ever get back in the workshop. ( Missus is making me do garden work ever since I cut those trees down, I'd forgotten how hard stumps are to dig out!)

I hope you are going to try turning the stumps!

Finished rings look good.. like your jig and the how to makes it look a lot easier than I would have thought but i know in practice you are just making things look easy [emoji106] [emoji106]
