Hi all

Here are 3 more pens.

The thing i am finding out as i go along is that some woods look better with differant finishes. Its hard to tell from the pictures but pens 1 and 2 are the some wood type but No1 is finished with EEE (turned slightly duller) and 2 is CA which in the hand looks and feels better. 3 finished with 5 coats ca.

by the way i have tried to put a slight round near the center band as jim suggested. i will get there someday

Comments as always.

just out of interest i made a pen press as suggested by "Clumsysod" which works very well after trying vice and clamps.

They are looking good as you say different types of finishing can give very different looks to the same pens the one thing I think is spoiling your work is the use of the comfort grip I have found from experience that they tend to put a lot of people off
Ian :ciggrin::ciggrin:
ps. it looks to me from the pictures that you are putting the comfort grip over the wood which is wrong they are made to fit over the brass tube then they fit perfectly to the nib insert.

I agree the woods do look different with different finishes.

Difficult to tell in the pictures from what Ian is saying, but know where he is coming from. If it's right.

Otherwise looking much better and getting there..:thumbs:

Hi all
Again thanks for the comments about the pens.

just to clear up for Dotslad no the rubber just covers the tube and the wood in approx half the tube. And yes the comfort pens were just 1 of 2 kinds of pen i bought last year to practice with (do not like them so no more comfort pens) bought some of them and some slimlines.
I have been doing little bits of turning for about 18 months, most ended in the bin but can not stop "its addictive" and now am looking for a bigger lathe. (never sold anything just give away to family and friends) plus not confident about what i turn as to how good they are.

Ernie You can turn the comfort pens without the rubber bit and it looks a lot better
