Mostly kitless wedding pen for a mate

A good mate is getting hitched so I made this for the signing of the register. Elm blank, sycamore plug, walnut and purpleheart jigsaw heart. The last pen turned on my watchmakers chuck (the nova G3 is a VAST improvement!) so the shape was largely dictated by the wobble of the pin mandrel ...

The cap is a bit long - kitless is tricky because you don't have tube lengths dictating sizing!

Pete, I turned a piece of brass rod down to about 8.8mm along about 21mm of its length, 9.9mm for another 8mm. Turned a 10x0.75 thread on the thicker end (section to barrel) then drilled out with an 8mm bit. The feed housing is epoxied in after mounting and turning a wood blank. You need to soak the nib end of the section in thin CA to make it impervious to ink. I'll take a pic of it a bit later.

Very nice David very nice indeed.
Unfortunately if its a UK wedding they won't be signing the register with it but I won't go into why and spoil your thread.
I take it the few parts you have used are from a Jnr Gents kit or similar, this one has a much better shape and sense of dimension than your previous one.
Amazing how much we learn by trial and error this is a league in front right down to the jigsaw heart, Brilliant dear chap the more I look the more I see.

That is one cracking pen as said in a league of its own your friend may be able to use it if he gets in touch with the registrar before the wedding so he can have the proper ink (permanent) I did when I got married 10 years ago but I made a pen for the minister as well but some of them just wont let you use your own pen sorry.

Thanks for the comments, all. It's not a UK wedding, but thanks for the heads-up regarding ink. Worth bearing in mind for future wedding pen commissions. Not that I'd get involved in the legalities, but its worth telling clients that they will need to jump through hoops if they want to sign the register with it.

Thanks David,
thats very interesting as when i do sections i have a lot of trouble with the internal thread and they take ages by hand. I might have ago at some using just a few kit parts as you ve inspired me.
Re the ink i am fairly sure it has to be registrars or archival ink, Diamine inks in Liverpool do it amongst many others. Its also called archival ink and some is supposed to be readable after 300 years.
Very good pen mate.

Regards

Pete
