I thought i would try a CA finish today. 10 coats later and no fingerprints and two of my finger stuck together. The finish looks nice but when i took the finished blank off the bushings a bit of the CA came off as you can see on the photo . . . How do i stop this from doing this again ?13323970_10153159898192824_1506766107_o.jpg

I've heard a smidgin of wax on the bushings prevents this occurring ...never needed to do this myself so don't know if its a good idea or not.

Very nice Gary!:thumbs::thumbs:
Great first effort. I only use CA on resin pens to encase water slide decals.
Otherwise I sand to 2000 grit followed by white automotive compound,
then carnuba car wax.

Happiness is a well finished pen with CA sadness is the chip that can be avoided by undersized spacers or between centres finishing.

Very simple way to avoid the problem you had as Mark said, use nylon cones like those in the link above. Search eBay for Delrin rod, a 200mm length x 12mm for example is under £4 and turn your own. I've not had any problems since I started using cones :thumbs:

I agree with Mark and Ray. I have been using homemade cones for a while now. You will have to re-square the blank as glue will "spill" over the ends.

It's a shame about the end delaminating, definitely use cones, there are some on offer in the competition for members who haven't entered before, you can easily make a pen before the deadline.
