Hi all

Only been turning pens since March this year so only about 5 months. Been doing the usual kit pens and after seeing some of the kitless pens shown here I thought I would give it a go.

I know I got my measurements wrong and its a little too long, the Cap could be 5mm shorter and the Barrel could easily loose 10mm if not 15 but for a first go I am quite pleased.

I made one little cheat and that was to use one of the ready made nib sleeves for the Number 6 Bock nib I used. Until I can get some of the correct sized taps, although to be honest I may just stick with the metal sleeves.

Cap threads are 13mm but single start. Saving my pennies for a triple start tap & die.

Hope you like my efforts.

Paul

As first attempts go, that's a lot better than most. We are all our worst critics (except for the wife) and see flaws no one else will. Great choice of material, shapeing looks good too as do the black fineals.... Really well done mate:claps:

Top effort, can't fault it as I've not been brave enough to venture down the kitless rabbit hole myself!

Well done, your pen looks great, impressed you included clip and finials.
I'm on a similar journey as you, I've turned before, but pen (kits) only a couple of months.
This week I embark on my kitless journey, equipment emassed and process scribbled on a scrap of paper, I hope my first is as successful as yours, but I will probably keep it basic and ignore the clip and finials for now.

Hi all

Just finished my second pen.

made some improvements on this one, like reducing the length of the Cap thread on the body, still single thread but now only takes 5 turns to remove replace unlike on the first one where it took 10 turns.

Still need to reduce the length of the cap but that will be for number 3.

Hope you like it.

With the barrel its simply glued on before turning the barrel. With the cap one it's held in place by a screw through the top of the cap, thay way it also holds the clip in place as well. It's attached before the cap is turned so it all blends together.

Hi all

I was still not totally happy with number 2, the proportions still seemed a little out,

So I gave it a rework and now much happier with the result.

Improvements made.

Both finials are now tenoned into place and hollowed to allow the nib space now that the cap is shorter and for the end of the converter now that the barrel is also shorter. I have also shortened the section.

To me it now looks much better proportion wise and I am now at a set of dimensions I can comfortable work with now.

Paul
