My New Lathe.

Call me patriotic but I have been after one of these lathes for years, they were build about approx 45 mins or so from my home town

Before I picked her up.


Well here is an updated photo of her new surroundings
, I haven't got room in my shed.

Plug'er in and make the 3/4''12 thread.
Download this Hercus book, lots of info, good reading. You can apply the instruction
to just about any ''older'' (real) lathe.

My Hercus has a full set of change gears for Metric as well and most of the accessories. Marks lathe is a later model with a fair chance it is metric and would need change gears to make imperial threads. Do you know the year of manufacture Mark. If not there is on the U Beaut forum Metal Lathe section subsection Hercus where this info can be found.

The Hercus turning book is 100% applicable to Marks Lathe and a valuable asset Angelo. There is a direct closeness Angelo as when I posted the pic of my Hercus recently between the lathe you have. The atlas and other lathes share design.

But I didn't let that stop me, after 20 plus years of wanting one, and it was in my town.

Unfortunately it was never covered in it previous home, she is full of dust and crap, the oil or grease on the gears is rock hard.
So I want to strip her down, clean her and repaint her to bring her back to her former glory.
Unfortunately where I live I cant get her bed reground.

Thanks for the link Angelo, I have down loaded it, and will go on to my shed computer when I get another monitor.

I did get these as well, both Hercus books are 1980 print.

The Black Book of Fasteners, Was scabbed from a bin at work, I couldn't leave it to go to landfill, could I?

My Hercus is Imperial, the Aussie forum said she was built in 1980
She is an AT model.

A = gearbox model with power feed apron
T = belt drive version ( only used on the 260)








If they are stamped with a
M = metric model (all others are imperial)

Then its imperial after all and you already had the manual. Seems its up to the smaller lathe for now.
