First I would like to thank you for your comments on my Tempest pens.

I use Stick Fast CA. Start by applying a couple coats of thin just to seal the wood. Next I wipe on 5 coats (min) of medium. I apply with a piece of folded paper towel. To apply the medium CA I put a drop on the towel and very quickly wipe back and forth across the entire blank. Do not linger. This is a fast process. Your not trying to put on a smooth finish you want to apply multiple coats. A very small, quick spray of accelerator between coats. If you have more patience than me you can let it dry and not use accelerator. The size of the CA drop depends on blank size. I let these dry overnight.

I sand with SIASOFT Paper/Film Backed Products from vinceswoodnwonders.com. This product is first rate and lasts a long time.

I sand 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500. 320 takes the longest as you are leveling the finish. Sand radially and along the grain until there are no shiny spots. Proceed from 400 to 1500. These last 6 grits are to be done very quickly. If you sand through the CA start over and apply again.

Lastly I use Novus 3 and Novus 2 scratch remover.

One last observation. When I open a new bottle of CA I write the date on the label. At the end of 6 months it gets tossed. Old CA will fail and then you get a lesson on taking your pen apart to refinish.

Comments, suggestions and questions welcome.

Terry

A lot of great information Terry for those amongst forum members that want to go along the CA route (much debate over finishing at the moment) and why wouldn't they with results like you got on the tempest pens.

Thanks for sharing. :thumbs::thumbs:

This shows on your pens Terry your output is incredible seeing as how you fuss with the grades etc it consumes oodles of time and real care.The weather must be cold to miserable right now I sense a longing for a cruise on the bike. Well deserved praise for your product and kindness. Thanks for the hints. I cracked my Nirvana in special fixer recently the only one I have found atomizes so fine, tends to not white the finish, lasts well. Made by Maxi Products called Mitre Fix. The CA that comes with it I teach how to fly, all fail its too thick for me. Hence I reached deep into the supply chain. The freight required as a class A product was 50.00 dollars from Melbourne. Established a deal with Sydney where a friend of a friend safe hands it to me door to door. In response I made gifts of two pens, for the two Managers, for the friend deliverer a Golf Fanatic an ancient cut off Wood Club mounted on a burl slice. So many times as I say THE POWER OF A PEN.

All the best of your dreams mate for 2017.

Peter.
