First I would like to thank you for your comments on my Tempest pens.
I use Stick Fast CA. Start by applying a couple coats of thin just to seal the wood. Next I wipe on 5 coats (min) of medium. I apply with a piece of folded paper towel. To apply the medium CA I put a drop on the towel and very quickly wipe back and forth across the entire blank. Do not linger. This is a fast process. Your not trying to put on a smooth finish you want to apply multiple coats. A very small, quick spray of accelerator between coats. If you have more patience than me you can let it dry and not use accelerator. The size of the CA drop depends on blank size. I let these dry overnight.
I sand with SIASOFT Paper/Film Backed Products from vinceswoodnwonders.com. This product is first rate and lasts a long time.
I sand 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500. 320 takes the longest as you are leveling the finish. Sand radially and along the grain until there are no shiny spots. Proceed from 400 to 1500. These last 6 grits are to be done very quickly. If you sand through the CA start over and apply again.
Lastly I use Novus 3 and Novus 2 scratch remover.
One last observation. When I open a new bottle of CA I write the date on the label. At the end of 6 months it gets tossed. Old CA will fail and then you get a lesson on taking your pen apart to refinish.
Comments, suggestions and questions welcome.
