I like the blank but don't think it goes with the kit, a silver straight forward kit would be much better in my opinion.

Au contrare I like the pen the very blank I avoid in one piece pens preferring the banded type circuit boards. In this case the pen is IMHO understated enough to carry these two blanks that have been really well turned. In the chinese tradition that very shade of Jade will go down extremely well where you live and also over here.

I applaud this pen knowing the paraphenalia surrounding the pen in the picture unfairly detract from the gold. Also I really like the knurling effect on the clip band, top and tip. This extra appeal for me is shared by so many people I have shown pens to and given and sold. An example was making a pen once from brass darts with knurling caused quite a stir in the dart playing community. The tapering in this pen design is superior. Full credit where it is due.

I paid through the nose to get some circuit board blanks and couldn't give them away, I still have a couple not made up yet cos I still have the ones I did make.
People in the IT industry certainly don't want to be reminded of work, no more than the Army want bullet pens.
Get real init?

I quite like the circuit board pens and am always intrigued by them from a point of view of making the blanks. Did you make the blanks or buy them? Like Penpal Peter I think the pen is fine and the CBs can take the knurling effect of the kit:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

And yet all the bullet pens I have sold have been to military personnel and gun enthusiasts. Everything will sell to the right person, you could try marketing the CB pens as the only CB that will never go tits up, is solar powered and only needs a new refill now and again.

Oi! Let's not hijack Edward's thread! :face:

Edward, I think that's a beautifully turned pen and I love CB blanks. The knurling on the kit wouldn't go down well in England but from what I've seen of tastes in Asia Pacific I can see you won't have trouble selling it. Well done!

Hi Peter:

I am surprised that you know Chinese culture. As this pen was commissioned as a gift to a CEO of a big electronic company, I have thought of using black PCB or Silver/chrome plated pen kits but both items represent death in Chinese culture so is is a big NO

What is not salesable in your region does not means the same over here in my country. You will be surprised that I sold quite a number of these pens both in Cigar and Sierra pen kits. What is important is that you must know and understand your market well. Majority of my pens are made on commissioned basis and without advertisment, I do not even have a website. I confident that I can sell a huge number of bolt action pens in my country unfortunaly the sales of this pen is illegal under my country law

No surprises here Edward a good friend of ours from Hong Kong then ageing had a million dollars of a lifetime collection in Jade he used to sit and contemplate with a basic frog ancient Jade piece rubbing the artifact for good luck. One day it slipped from his hand chipping on one corner he asked me to fix it for him which I did with a Dremel and attachments he was really gratefull. When I made him a pen put it in a beaut box he rushed it into his safe with the Jade. When I give pens from then on I take them from my top pocket and assure recipients they are to use and enjoy, also that they are not lifetime gifts to diminish any confusion since after all the kits are so cheap and we do not pay for permanence IMHO. My carry pen is really heavily used and the one that people get to see most still looks great twice through the washing cycles etc, looks great.

For many years SWMBO and me spent a weekly session teaching our brand of English expression to people from other countries becoming more aware of the norms of others. Very grateful for this service to others enrolling them in libraries, scanning their correspondence , correcting their english from University graduates to any interested migrant. One guy was the principal Anaesthetist in a major Hospital from the same region pen kits are made in the South of China the very province, at the Credit Union Bank we use the most helpful person in that organisation also came from this province, gave us incredible help and is rising so fast in the bank we have been blessed to know these people. Voluntary work these days extends to Hospital visits for The Vietnam Vets, all ex service men and woman at our local hospital. On tuesday met with a great man lost two legs below the knee in Vietnam from a mine now has three forms of Cancer lying in bed sharing great experiences with me he will die within a year anyway we finished having a yarn and I met him unassisted in pajamas talking to staff in the corridor. I thanked him again for his service not one grain of self pity. Our new Governor General for Australia came to visit him the day before they trained at the same acadamy. Makes my life experieces so rich indeed.

Kind regards Peter.

Thank you very much for your thought and lesson in life, I fully agrees with everything you have written. I also salute those in the armed forces around the world that have given so much to mankind in hope of peace. Unfortunally there are group of fantic that are always out to make other people miserable. Given an opportunity, I would despatch them to hell with a bullet in their brain.

As for Asian culture, one must fully understand how they think and believe before you can do your marketing.

Regards
