I did something similar to this but not having a metal lathe I turned a Morse taper out of some scrap, epoxied some corian on the end and reinforced with some hot glue (which you can turn with a skew by the way when hard). I attach some roughly cut out sticky backed sanding disks to it and it works a treat!
