My second Apex

This is my second apex pen, this time in acrylic. The finish is gun metal. I really like the design of the Apex pens, but I must say, doing one in acrylic is much more challenging than wood. But I got it done, and am fairly happy with the shape, even though it's slightly different than my first. For some reason, there are fine scratches visible in certain light. More so than the majority of my acrylic pens, even though I spent probably twice as much time polishing this one. But to the naked eye, it still looks pretty good. I'm happy with the blank, too. I don't remember the name of it, but it's one of the acrylic acetates.

One of the design aspects I like about the Apex, is the plunger turned from the same blank. I think it's a very cool feature.

Here is a shot of my first Apex for comparison. You can see the shapes are similar, but different. Not sure which I prefer.

That's a beauty. Nice blank.
I like the blue shape.
It's amazing how those 'invisible' scratches appear in
the photos but not to the naked eye.
I get that same effect. So, on the next one I spend a little
more time stopping the lathe and cross sanding after
every grit I use.

Cutting the outside corners off prior to turning is a help its quite a chatter otherwise setting up a possible chip. The blue is superior much smoother colour in full agreement with your thoughts.

I think that looks really nice. The acrylic suits the kit rather better than the wood in my opinion, not sure why just to my taste I guess.

I always cut the corners on acrylic blanks. I don't like the chips in my face if I don't.

Oooh - I likes the look of that a lot, I know what you mean with the microscratches, spent a lot of time on the buffing wheel last week. I need a decent click pen kit for my Mums birthday pen, due to MS nerve wasting she can't operate twist pens, looks like this might be the ticket.
