My boy (13) had a day at his granddads yesterday and came home with these. A small cherry bowl for his mum and an elm bottle opener for me (he knows me too well).

He was really chuffed - can see me fighting with him for shed time now!

Well done him !

I did some at school age 13-14 and then no more till I was 52, I just hate to think of all those wasted years :thinks:

Here's hoping he enjoys it and with the 2 of you to support and guide him he could be on to the hobby of a lifetime.

Start em young mate. My grandkids are 11 and 15 and both of then enjoy a go on the lathe. They have both made a few pens and the eldest Tom is doing woodturning as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award and has turned quite a few thing now.

It is great when the younger generation want to get involved and even better when they produce nicely turned pieces. The youngest great grandson sometimes comes out in the shed and all he want to do is pick up all the shavings one piece at a time and he is only 18moths old, Don't worry no machines running when he comes out there
