You may have read the other day that I "acquired" a compressor out of a fridge and that I'd keep you informed of my progress, well today I progressed a little.

My mate Danny popped in for a cuppa this afternoon and gave me a hand to attach the mains cable correctly and flush out all the old coolant. Speaking of which, if you do this yourself, when you think you have got all the coolant out, there will be more, much more!

All it has cost so far is a bit of 5mm tube at £1.08 a metre and the push on connector bits both from B&Q. Its very quiet, not getting even warm and has been on for about 2 hours now. At first it bubbled like crazy and we had to release the pressure a few times before they reached the top of the jar, we remedied this by clamping the pipe a little which seemed to work fine. The bubbles have almost stopped now so I guess it must have nearly finished doing its job. A fair few refinements to do yet but I think its getting there!

Ed you have my undying admiration for this project.
It's exactly the sort of project I would have tried myself if I had the urge to stabilize punky wood.
Personally I would throw the crap out and keep only the good stuff as I work in a bedroom I have to take care what comes in the house. It's not my house.
Have you put a non return valve inline? I would.
I had a twin fridge pump compressor some years ago in a workshop it was incredible it pumped up to 180 psi in a 50 gallon tank and almost silent and lasted for years, in fact I know it is still working to date in a pub cellar.
Please do keep us informed and show some results I am really interested inn your findings.
