I have been searching the UK sites for an adaptor for my myford metal lathe which is 1 1/8 x 12 tpi so that my grandson can use my spindle threaded M33 x 3.5mm (T38)chucks on it.

I'm sure that the myford ML8 wood lathe was the same thread as the ML7 but either I'm thick (no comments please) ? but I can only find the Teknatool US Web site showing them available.

I have an Axminster small variable lathe which he uses from time to time, but ( there always is one with grandchildren) he wants to use the Myford as he wants to turn ali/copper/brass pen and has tried the small Axi but he is loosing confidence with it.

I was going to turn one on the myford but the dies for the M33 are a little pricey, but if that's the only way then that's what will have to happen. .:nonono:

Any ideas greatfully received..

why do I have the feeling that someone is going to make look stupid. :rolling::thinks:

I seem to remember this been a problem before for some one.
I don't think they are commercially available here.
If you can re tap the smaller thread, you could buy a 3/4 x 16" adaptor and drill it out?

Thanks Neil.

Looked at the smaller ones as have one for the small Axminster lathe. But if I drilled it and tapped it out there would not be much left on the sides and I don't believe it would be strong enough .really..

I have an "excert" for my graduate lathe.
1 1/2" to M33, if you had something with that wall thickness, it may help.
Try looking for a local engineering firm that offers CNC.

Our machines at the school are not big enough, but you just type in the thread size and pitch and it just does it, so it may be cheaper than you think to have one made?

Peter Childs does adapters for the mystro 1 1/8 x 12, but I don't know what the thread size is on the other end, it's probably for the Patriot chuck, but there may be an adapter that can go on to that. Worth a call.

Eamonn to use an illustration of the Hercus chuck I had converted to fit the Woodfast 1 inch ten. I bought a converter from a dealer with the one inch ten thread got a machinist to cut the thread to fit the chuck. Works wonderfully allowing me to revert back easily to the metal lathe use any time.

Thanks for the extra thought gents.

One more idea I have just had as if they did a M33 x 3.5mm MT2 :thinks: now that is another way :thinks:

I have an engineering company I have used in the past, I will make a few calls next week if nothing comes up before..
