Is it off a Proxxon ??? screwdriver attachment,
Is it not a quick change hex bit chuck? You pull back the body of the chuck to ease ball bearings - the ball bearings in turn hold the hex bit in place when the body is back in place. The body is spring loaded to return it and hold it in its closed position. The whole thing fits in the chuck of an electric screwdriver or drill.

Back in the 80s pre cordless drills, still in the Yankee era...I saw these and bought one....Yes it's a driver bit designed for the old fixed speed black and decker everyone had. The bits sit deap in the unit and the ball bearing hold the shaft of the Netlestead csk screw....pre twin thread, Spax or gold screws.....you could put a 3" 10 in softwood really quick....just keep your fingers back....once the screw was nearly home the chrome color would push the timber, retract and release your screw. That would send the screw home and allow your drill to free spin and not oversink the screw......:pray::pray:

Not a proxxon attachment.

Seems like it but extremely clumsy and the bearings keep falling out.
Will put them in my old non useable tools box for posterity.
The modern ones are so much smaller and more efficient to use

I think Dad has one in his shed by memory, I proberly snuffled the bits years ago.
