Nebula effect

Hi all

I have been playing with the idea of casting a pen blank which has a nebula effect. I believe these are the "in thing" at the moment. I have enjoyed various levels of success but none that I would call stunning.

I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas. I believe there are a few ways this can be done. I have pearl, mica, and nebula powders which are probablyall the same thing and suitable glitter.

I would love to see pictures of what members efforts.

In a way mate this to me is like a so called Dorathy Dix question when I looked this up on Google up comes in this order Nebular effect in cast pen blanks, Videos, Images on this subject,How does one acheive this Northern Light Effect , etc. Then a heading by your good self. I imagine those who have acheived this (in your case using Silver (real) have acheived this in some form) complete with how to,specific instructions.

I wish you well,if I had acheived success in this question perhaps I would try to stay ahead of the mob,what do you think mate? By Dorathy Dix questions this refers especially in Parliament when one party use prior knowledge to get another platform to discuss it.
You use in your claim Aurora Effect which is Nebula to me.

Hmmm. I believe you may be getting your casters in a muddle Peter. To the best of my knowledge, Frederick is asking a genuine question because he doesn't know the answer. He is not a commercial caster seeking to further his interests by underhand methods.

I can't help you though Frederick - I'm not a caster, but there are plenty here who are, and one my pop along to help you shortly.

Yes, Tim MacKenzie is a commercial caster. He makes DiamondCast blanks, which I sell on the Beaufort Ink website in fact. They're beautiful. Frederick though, is a different person, and is asking for his own enlightenment I think you'll find.

Thanks for this post. You are indeed correct. Perhaps I should have phrased the post a little differently.
I certainly wouldn't do anything underhanded and I am certainly no businessman that's for sure.

Just to clear things a little. I do not sell my blanks nor do I sell my pens unless someone actually asks to buy one. I then do sell them but at a subtantial loss. I do donate some to charities but, more than often, i give them away to family and friends.
I maybe be making some blanks for Pierre but on a friendly basis, again I will not be making any profit and will no doubt "lose" from it. I do it to assist him and his ambitions to produce RAF blanks for RAF veterans.

I haven’t cast any of the Nebula type blanks, but I know of a few people who have, but I would think they would be wanting to keep there technique close to there chest.

Makes me laugh. "there technique" was probably something they copied from someone else that shared a way of doing something.

I thought I had answered this. Must be growing oldI have researched this a lot. From what I can discover, it seems that there is a critical point when mixing when colour and glitter is added. This may be obtained by checking the temperature frequently and try to catch the mix just before the setting time has been reached. Umfortunately, atmospheri pressurec and humidy have an effect. Still have a bit of a way to go yet .
