I was so impressed with the large insert tool I made (at the back in the picture) I decided to make another type but for a 8mm insert this time on a round bar. Just given it a quick try and it works well. Need to buy some more inserts I think!

The inserts only cost about £4.50 and they last ages so I quite like carbide tooling.

beautifully done, where do you buy your inserts?

I get them from here Bob:

http://www.shop-apt.co.uk/carbide-tips-hobby-use/page/1/

The quoted prices are for two inserts. You can get them even cheaper if you buy ten.

You can rotate the tips a couple of times to present a fresh edge so they last ages.

I've not tried it yet but I'm going to touch up one of the tips with a diamond plate once it's dulled to see what happens.
It will change the geometry but I'm wondering if it may have a second life as a shear scraper?
