Hey all, those of who remember my plans to move onto a narrowboat are finally a reality, as I visited the builder today and the hull is well under way. Should have more photos in few weeks, but these were taken today.

That's great news Ray. Very pleased for you both that your dreamboat is well on the way to getting launched. If you ever get on the Trent and Mersey you know where I am and you are more than welcome to pop in and have a few hours on dry land.

Hey Vic, thanks for the offer, we would love to pop in and say hello sometime as the Trent and Mersey will be our home canal, we're going to be moored at Mercia Marina and to get north we'll have to come your way. How far are you from the canal?

If you moor up at the Church Bridge in Rugeley I am about 800 yards from there

What a great idea.
Is there a water tax like land tax?
Where will the lathe go?
Can you have your dog with you?

Would not work here. Every waterway is full of raw sewage. Like floating on a septic tank.

Enjoy. I know I would.

There is a canal and river license which is priced on the length of the boat. Our boat will be 57 foot or 17.4 metres. The plan is to get another boat, like the photo below, to on the front of the main boat which will be my workshop. That will make the whole boat 70foot long or 21.3 metres. It costs about the same as living in a small house to live in a boat

There are over 2000 miles (2600 kilometres) of inland canals and rivers in the U.K.

The English way of upstairs with steps becomes impossible for me these days , likewise the dexterity needed for embarking and getting out is very difficult with age I find even with the cars.

Peter.
