Dos and don'ts is an especially unusual exception. The apostrophe in the contraction doesn't seems to make people want to use an apostrophe to make do plural (do's and don'ts), but then to be consistent, you'd also have to use an apostrophe to make don't plural, which becomes downright ugly (do's and don't's).:winking:

It's "don'ts" that is actually correct, even though it looks weird on the page. The plural of don't is don'ts. However, the plural of do is dos, not do's, and an international body such a Trip Advisor which sets (or should that be set's) itself up to be the first and last word in travel research, should really know better.

Do I really care? No, not especially - it just appeared in my inbox, it looked strikingly weird, and my first thought was what a bunch of.... well, maybe I should stop there.

Eye d'o'n't no. Wot is the wurld cumming two?!!

I do not know if I should get involved with this one as the last one did not go very well and I should not do what I did before or the bell may be rang.

So the dos and don’t are keep quiet about something’s I knows nowt abouts :funny:

Some of the nicest use of the English language that I have seen recently, appears in the editorial columns of Indian newspapers. We seem to have neglected the art here in the UK. I blame the tabloids ‘what done it!’ (sic)
