An Empress kit dressed in Murray river Gum burr I got these blanks from David (Lignaterrae) on ebay and tried out my new tool on it, it is the same tip I made the bowl with the other day and it hasn't been sharpened as of yet but gave good fine shavings

Straight of the tool with no sanding

Sanded and polished with eee friction polish and libron woodturners stick another one for my wood collection

Very nice Woody. Your new tool certainly seems to be the bees knees. How does it feel when working on a pen? I would be frightened that its a bit vicious. You've done a lovely job of that pen though and it looks good in the Empress kit...

Hi Paul it is so easy its unbelievable nice gentle strokes and the shavings pealed of didn't even need a skew it may have been even better if I had sharpened it first

Fantastic finish straight off the tool there, did you have a try with your sheer scrape tool? Bet that would have left an even better finish

Was that the square, round edged tips woody?

Great looking pen as well mate..

I tried both on it Eamonn but prefer the round one the square one did work well but I think the round one had the edge for me I haven't tried the profiled ones I got from you yet I will try one tomorrow as well as the skew one and I may try one of yours on the skew as well just for a comparison good fun aint it

I know this timber as River Red Gum growing in the and around the Murray River it can grow in flooded areas of the river and can be a huge tree really like the name associated with this great river, there is quite an industry built around this timber. Glad you found the tool useful and worthwhile but I have the feeling you could turn anytthing with an axe and it would turn out right. The pen has depth and character, thanks for showing your beaut pen Woody.

Kind regards Peter.

Lovely pen Woody, first time I've seen the timber in a finished pen, I've used it as lids on small decorative boxes. Don't hesitate to order direct off me, you don't need to go through Ebay. It's cheaper for you that way as I don't have to pay Ebay's horrific fees!

Woody just rearranged the deckchairs by relocating 200 turning blanks among them were some River Gum burl nice timber but can be really cranky and a bit brittle prone to holes making your pen the better for a good blank. Neil is churning out great blanks.

Kind regards Peter:thumbs:
