Don’t do your self down on the drawing skills as they are better then a lot I have seen.
What an excellent machine choice, I had my dads old one that I only ever used once in 10 years so decided to sell it on.

I got one last week Kevin and as people say they are a great machine. Don't knock what you have done mate as first attempts they are excellent. I had a go and boy o boy you should have seen the crap that I produced, my artistic skills are less than zero. I have handed the machine over to my daughter who is going to be in charge of the pyrography department at this end

We went to the Exeter tool show and there was a Pyrography Artist there. She has both the Peter Child machine and the Antex Firewriter, she said in her opinion the Antex was the better machine. There was a vendor at the show selling the Antex at a special offer price of £80 so we bought one. The Antex can use wire as thick as 20 swg which I hope will prove handy for texturing some wood turnings. I also found a good place for buying the wire online:

Just a little bit of advice if you have not found out already.
When transferring a pattern to the wood do not use carbon paper as it produces a waxy line get some graphite paper as that is the same as pencil and easier to remove than the stuff on carbon paper.
Try to tape the pattern down so that you can lift one edge to see where you are the tape will act like a hinge allowing the pattern to return to its original position. In the bottom of bowls it is a little more awkward

Very nice Kevin. if you haven't already got some, can I suggest you try spoon tips. I use them in the same machine for almost all of my pyrography. Have fun.

At the last Exhibition of the ACT Wood Guild i spent some quiet time with the women demonstrating their skill in woodburning. They used a resistance wire apparently the same one for years. Every now and then removing the wire and cleaning it. One project was a Tiger,the sequences involved tedious but exacting, outlining then shading. It was so professional I felt it would be rude to photograph or it might break the spell cast on me while watching. Reading between the lines it would seem as I have tried this medium and not conquered it either I am not alone.There is a special interest group in the club devoted to making incredible images.All this time Wilma was out in the beauty of the National Botanical Gardens sketching and relaxing in the sunshine.
A long time ago the Principal Manager of this extensive place was a member of the Club and called us everytime they removed or had windfalls of most exotic trees and shrubs.Some neat hints from this post Kevin glad you raised it.
