Hi There,
I've been carving wood for a few years now and decided to have a go at pen turning. I noticed these items on sale on e bay and from what I've seen and read about it the lathe seems a good one so Im hoping that some of you out there will back me up on that one. I live in an apartment so there is no room for a full size one. I am keen to start this new hobby so I'll be asking loads of questions which will probably bore you all to death but hey that's what friends are for.

Hi Peter - welcome to the fold, and congratulations on your new lathe. I believe there are may good reports about that little lathe, and I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong with Axminster Trade lathes in any case. Ask as many questions as you like - everyone here had to start somewhere, and make good use of the little search box at the top right of the page - you may find many answers there already. Above all, do feel that you can join in and enjoy the banter.

Would be good if you lived on the top floor of a large multi storey appt, just think how easy it is going to be to get rid of the wood shavings and dust.. Open the window and let it fly...

Peter unless you like house cleaning you need a serious and quiet vacuum. Creating an isolated work space will help. Pen turning creates LOTS of dust. Please don't forget some form of dust mask. Looking forward to seeing your work.

By now you will have read the previous posts and realised that you've taken a step too far. My advice is to effect a rapid retreat, erase your details from the site and take up a safer pastime - like hang-gliding or free-fall parachuting.
