I want to reduce the noise in my workshop before my filings all drop out. Most of the noise comes from the dust extractor so I'm thinking of getting a cam vac because apparently, these can be made quieter via an exhaust silencer. Does anybody have any experience regarding cam vac sound levels? :thinks:

I've got a camvac and I've fed the exhaust into the cavity of my insulated garage. Noise levels right right down, brilliant.

I just wear noise cancelling headphones, no more worries ,filings intact. Problem solved.

Peter.

Thanks Peter, good idea but my workshop is next to the kitchen and the noise is irritating the Mrs when she's baking cakes. I obviously don't want to upset that activity, and before anybody suggests it, she wouldn't entertain wearing earphones, gold plated, diamond encrusted or fur lined.

With the noise cancelling headphones does it stop nagging noises if so go with them:funny::funny::funny:.

Otherwise go with the exhaust out of the workshop idea.

I thought of doing this Mark then after thinking about it realised that after insulating the shed and heating it all I would be doing is venting all my warm air outside no problem in the summer but not in the winters we get up here

I think someone in your part of the world, solved the problem of heat loss.
I seem to remember seeing it on this forum a couple of years ago.:thinks:

I vaguely remember reading or I had read someone venting to an insulated box built on the outside of the workshop which was sealed and had acoustic baffles or foam in. This air was then vented back into the workshop via a micron filter to stop particles and losing the warm air I have thought about this along with building a box with acoustic treatment for my air compressor unfortunately I just don’t have the room around the shed but would be a good idea for someone who did.
