Ebony and Maple. Ebony sanding dust and Maple do not mix. Couldn't get all the dust off the Maple. Probably won't make any more of these blanks.

It's still a nice pen. I know when I have used Aluminium and wood it was not great until I used sanding sealer before sanding it stopped all the grey aluminium dust going into the wood:thumbs:

As Peter & Woody says use sanding sealer before you sand , clean off with methylated spirit (denatured alcohol) then seal again. Do this for each grit & you should be ok. Time consuming, but worth it in the end. I use this method on African Blackwood which has white sapwood, works well.
If you could dismantle this pen & redo it it will be a beaut.
