So I had a stressful weekend - all day wedding with three kids all under 5, and 6 hours to get there....all I wanted was a stress free evening and what do I get? More hassle and pain. Was doing a pen that split on me, then I can't seem to finish a pen properly at all tonight and I'm just really fed up....my ca finish is all to cock - obviously I've already posted on that one but this is just me sounding off about what a crap evening I've had in the shed - no one to blame but me I guess! Tried to finish a Purple Heart and a beech but both coming up blotchy. Is there an easier finish out there? What's this aerosole lacquer I've been hearing about?

As Woody says. Acrylic gloss lacquer put on in light coats. I then buff on a mop with white diamond & manner a wax.

Try as Woody suggested with the Acrylic or get new ca I use thin ca for finishing on pens 3 coats a time building up to 9 coats total and it is only a £1 for three wee pots from the pound shops. Here is a video I have posted before and it is not the only way to finish pens but it works for me and I love the video as it is a load of old guys who like each others company as we say in Scotland the craik is good:-

When I have a stressful or long day I stay away from the shed cos I know I'm not in the right frame of mind to turn
The problem I have had recently is finding time to even get near the shed door, let alone use the lathe :sob:

I remember stress with five kids under eight we used to go to the drive in theatre. What a challenge. Many years later my dearly beloved mentioned I didnt open and close the car door for her. Can you imagine carrying , leading five kids in and out then in the rain backing up and being doorman. Fast forward eight years SWMBO said I want another baby, my remark was go hit your head on a brick wall cause she was going to Uni and studying Japanese and Spanish etc.

We had our sixth no regrets. So I know about rushing around and free time. All worth it mate.

Peter.
