I bought a resin kit at a local shop, and had to order the dyes for it from the internet. Being impatient, I wanted to try filling a big void in a piece of mulberry, but didn't want to fill it with the plain white alumilite. So I mixed some black embossing powder into the resin.

I washed the cavity with thin CA then sprinkled some small turquoise chips into the cavity to outline the fill. I filled the cavity, let it set, then drilled, turned and finished the pen.

The fill came out looking like granite. I think I will like this fill, just not necessarily in this particular wood. It would make great centerbands, for example.

Nice try Sharon I understand were your coming from the colour just don't look right but still a very good idea just another colour in that wood anyway maybe if the void was smaller it would have looked better the idea I like well done, a very nice bit of turning and finishing have another try please don't stop now

Got the dyes yesterday. I also want to try it with different colors of embossing powder. It turns well, and finishes well with the CA/BLO finish I prefer. I just don't like the color in this blank. On the other hand, my husband loves it. Just a matter of personal preference, I guess.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say - some will like it & some won't, personally I'm with Woody in that it doesn't look right in that wood or so big, but, what a lovely finished pen.
Also like the look of that wood on that pen, suits it.

The Mulberry is beautiful Sharon :bravo: I really like that & no doubting the quality of your work but I also don't like the filling. :thinks:

I like the mulberry Sharon, looks really good and the finish is superb. The infill looks great and well performed, however I'm not sure either.

I was trying for a solid black infill with the black embossing powder. Didn't really expect the "granite" look at all. Almost threw it in the bin when I saw what color it was. But went ahead and made it into a pen. Someone will like it I expect.
