Just got a Jet JWA 1015vs lathe and now found out my supernova chuck want fit. I need an Inserter to change the thread but don't seem to be having much success , any ideas, if not what chuck is suitable for this lathe that would use jaws I already have for my existing chuck

Your new lathe looks like it takes a M33 x 3.5mm you may be able to find an exsert rather than an insert to accept you nova, but it would push it out further from the headstock. You can get the sorby patriot chuck in M33 x 3.5mm and the jaws have the same fitting as your supanova I think.

Peter is correct on both counts. The Nova Chucks that have an M33 x 3.5 thread are direct threaded so an insert is not available. To convert your existing chuck you would need to use an exsert which you could obtain from The Tool Post Scroll down to "Threaded exserts for Patriot Chuck". They will fit both Sorby and Nova chucks.

This will, as Peter says, cause the chuck to be some way further from the headstock which may be a problem with a small lathe like the Jet where the distance between centres is limited.

The Sorby Jaws are indeed interchangeable with the Nova Jaws, but so are they with the new Record Power SC3 and SC4 chucks. In my opinion you may be better off with the smaller SC3 chuck but the Sorby Patriot and either of the Record chucks would use your existing jaws.

The SC3 is currently on sale for just under £100 in Record Power's Winter Promotion:

SC3 SCROLL CHUCK SET - M33

Just one afterthought, the Nova and Patriot jaws are numbered in reverse order to the Record Power chucks so if Nova jaws are used on the Record chucks they need to be fitted in reverse order. 4/3/2/1 instead of 1/2/3/4 otherwise they may not run true.

For many years in fact day one I kept with 1 inch ten threads for everything to keep all aquisitions compatable. Now I have the new large metric thread and adapters. Using a chuck from my metal lathe I had an adapter made that has been of great benefit for me ie Hercus to 1 inch ten threads for myVL100. there are so many ways.

Glen looked at the manual for the JWL-1015, it says the Spindle thread is 1”x8 TPI

http://content.jettools.com/assets/manuals/719100_man_EN.pdf

These are freely available here, in fact my previous lathe was this TPI, when I sold it I kept the chuck and bought an new insert to suit the big Vicky.
When I need a insert for my R/Sorby chuck the bloke in the shop said that the R/Sorby chucks and supernova chuck have the same internal thread.

BTW you cant have too many chucks.
