I know its got nothing to do with woodworking, but the scales are of my own design and to be honest, I am rather proud of it.
So a little while ago I was at some friends, who incidently have a forge. I took over some old garden shears and got to banging and clanging forging out a knife.
It had been sitting on my side for some time now, waiting for inspiration to take me. Well, it started sunday. I had the day to do what I wanted and got about sorting out this knife.
I took all afternoon and some evening getting it to a shape I liked and then sanded to where no pits were showing.
Yesterday I picked it back up and took it back outside for a sharpen. I then realised I hadnt made my bevel down to where a sharpened edge would be... more grinding, sanding and well i then finished off by finally sharpening.
That evening, while standing making my pen blanks, I thought I would make some hybrid scales for the handle. I got some wood that I liked and took my colours and started to pour. What I managed to turn out today was nothing less than beautiful (In my own opinion) I shall be looking forward to putting this all together over the next few days and having a first finished knife from scratch.
