1. If you smell burning TURN OFF THE LATHE and check what's happening;

2. A dead centre IS NOT a substitute for a live centre;

3. The time is coming when I may have to box up my woodworking machinery and send it back to the supplier with a note saying I have become too stupid to own it ...

:chuckle:Live centre in the headstock and dead centre in the tailstock this would never have happened. I have a record tailstock centre for drilling and was surprised that wasn't live, it can also create a fair old char.

Clearly remember Richard Raffan with an almighty catch demoing the Skew Chisel looking up and saying first time and the relieved expressions from us mugs. Your misplaced centre is minor IMHO.Put away the whip you have suffered enough mate.:thumbs::thumbs:
