I failed miserably with the segmenting for a pen blank so I chucked a lump of Oak on the lathe.

I suppose you could call this Military Oak as my son got a few pieces for me when they were felling some trees at Invicta Barracks in Maidstone.

The vase is 10" in height and 6" diam at its widest.

The wall thickness is approx 1/4" and was hollowed out with my Lyle Jamieson Hollowing Rig

Finished in Teak Oil and Microcrystaline Wax

Integrating the two features in the Oak must have been exciting Vic the neck with its peak at the peak of interest the grain reaching up the centre changes to consolidate with the cheeky base it deserves pride of place on the shelf mate.

It must have been a bear to hollow that preparation to receive the finishing touches the arrangement. I say this because Oak can be very difficult. This makes it even more precious mate IMHO.

Peter.
