My second and better looking attempt at offsetting open segments. Was happy with the process from the first one so concentrated on the form for this piece. Made from Purpleheart and Spalted Beech. Kept the segments to 1/4" so tou can see them but they don't dominate the whole thing. Textured the shoulder to break up the rim.
Finished with Danish oil and wax for a satin finish
Cheers all

Yeah, that is very nice indeed Brody. It takes a very brave man to take a vase that is already made to perfection and cut it in half to add segments like that. I absolutely love it, another Brody Classic.

Brody my boy you have excelled yourself to do that your wall thickness has to be the same all the way through and that takes some doing bloody well done as Paul said it takes a brave man to do all that work then to cut it in half that is true commitment or just plain ol insanity LOL :thumbs:

Cheers Vic but I didn't colour this one it's Purpleheart. Mother nature did this one

Bloody Hell Brody, what a stunning colour from natural Purpleheart. That makes it an absolutely stunning piece of work mate. I would have gambled on that being a stained piece.

Cheers all. You're giving me more credit than is due though, the whole thing is turned from a laminated blank with the segments in before I started. Dead simple to do just looks trickier than it is. Jolly good fun though, and I think I might make it my signature style:funny:
