Hi All,
This was a project with H4H colours. The turning went well but unfortunately I couldn't get the pen mech working.
I will make up another blank and get another kit installed.

The Olive wood was an amazing wood to turn. I bought a few pieces from forum member Neil Lawton and they are great.

Pain in the bum mate, with so much care and your design additions,a beaut piece of olive wood everything you could do has been done. Faulty clicks seem to be the order of the day with some kits. Personally I would stick with winding one piece kits.

Peter.

Beautiful result as always Paul. Such a shame the kit let you down. Can you not knock it apart and put a different mechanism in it?

Incidentally, at 4 1/2 inches, what was your technique for drilling it?

Hi Phil,
That is an option but this incident got me thinking that I shouldn't be using a cheap kit for this item. I would not want someone to buy this at a charity do and 5 mins later it stops working.

The drilling I did on a pillar drill. It did wander a little but I still had plenty of Olive to turn.

Cheers,
Paul

That's a great looking pen Paul, I have a lot to learn with this but may I ask....the tool you are using - is it a normal scraper? or something you have modified in some way?

Hi Neil,

The scraper is an old Sorby. It is standard I think. I don't have a sharpening jig so the end may have changed slightly. It is a easy tool to sharpen, wait for the sparks to come over the top and it is done.

Thanks to everyone for the comments.

Cheers,
Paul
