Where?????
All I see is dogs arses init?
Nope there's a man on a horse in the top left hand corner as well :whistling:

The pen looks good from what I can see of it Matt. But a plain white background (A4 paper) would show it off a lot better

nicely turned ,
however IMHO ,
you need a blank background to photograph it ,
also try and use the same piece of wood for both upper and lower parts.
Change your supplier Does not look much like Olive to me.
sorry if i offend but it is only my opinion.

Hi Angelo

Yeah it is olive wood but the top section broken when turning but I had another bit laying around so tried to make up a pen with the 2 bits but it is olive wood or it is what I ordered. Not unless there has been a mix up with the person who supplied them to me. I have 2 more bits of it so will see how it turns when I get round to it

Matt photography may not be your bag but computers you can put pens on dogs.
Try Picassa 3 for your pen pics like the pen ideas but mix and match is chancy.

You have a good shape with this Matt, i wouldn't worry to much about the photography at the minute, this frustration comes not to long after you have cracked the pen learning curve ..

Most definitely Olive Johnny.
As the supplier I should know.
I cut, seasoned and blanked this timber myself.
I try to cut the blanks to give the best interest. Some look like you would expect, though some wood is dark, or exceptionally light, and some a mix. It all depends where it came from on the tree, and the age of it. It's perhaps unfortunate that Matt chose such a contrasting piece to finish this pen, but I quite like it all the same.

No mix up Matt, please see reply above. I'll send you another couple of blanks FOC next week, for you to try, and I'll make them as commercially "Normal" as possible.

Looks well turned and as has been said the contrast can work well. We get so used to seeing two part pens turned from one blank that anything else seems 'wrong', but that is not how others see things.

Neil I can't fault your blanks mate they look amazing with lovely figure and colour each one is unique I would certainly order more off you as and when you have them available and I need them I have only turned 4 pens so to say I am learning quickly is an understatement but until you do these things you can't learn from your mistakes. Sorry if I have offended anybody but I like it.

It's always nice to have 10 or so of Neil's Olive blanks in stock so that you always have some lovely wood to turn, quality olive is superb especially on a single barrel pen like a long clicker.

The pen is fine, It's still early days for you and you're learning by your mitsakes, always the best way to learn if you can keep yourself intact when doing it init?

Matt, my catalogue of mistakes could fill a book, pretty sure that everyone on here has made stacks as well

Just so you know

My first attempt with a serpentine with plastic sheets .. fell apart ... didn't know that one side had protective film on it ... :sob:
1st attempt at celtic knot ... only cut 2 sides so it looked stupid .... :sob:
Cut blanks too short, drilled and only found out when I smothered the tube in glue and tried to fit it ... :sob:

the list is endless .... but as everyone has said ... mistakes can be the best way to learn ........... till the next f**k up :funny:

Just ask Grump about applying meths to clean a blank, then using the same piece of tissue to apply CA ...... :funny::funny::funny: He was supposed to be teaching me something and I thought ... hmmmmm :funny::funny:

Brad
