With much less golf possible this year I wondered if I should get a cycle ( yeah I know all about keeping death off the roads :wink:) so my flabber was truly gasted when my neighbour offered me this last week. A Dawes Nomad all terrain fully 40 years old but virtually as it came out of the showroom and which in the late 70s cost more than £400 which is well over £2000 in today's money.

I wanted to be sure I'd use it before accepting so tried it out a few times around estate roads and enjoyed it, needed a helmet so first visit to a shop in 3 months resulted in spending only £15 plus a fiver for the discount card at Great Outdoors yesterday, good news for a confirmed skinflint. :whistling: I wanted black but no stock so settled on this, my missus thought I should have gone for the fluorescent yellow. :rolling:

He won't take a penny for the bike so I'll need top make a couple of really nice pens for him and his missus as a small thank you.

You lucky man you, I have just spent 50€ getting the tyres and tubes replaced on my son's bike to get my wife on the cycle paths with me. Following my heart op I need to keep fit and I find cycling alone very boring although the countryside is beautiful so with her alongside the kilometres pass swiftly and the French have just invested in tarmacking hundreds of kilometres of cycle paths along the old railway lines (closed about the same time as Beeching in UK) . Mind you with the quality of the new generation of car drivers I think you should have gone for a yellow helmet.... Bugger masculinity go for visibility . They even make helmets with flashing lights on the back to remind the mobile phone gossips (or just those who think they look important with a mobile phone on their ear); that you exist.

I have a hi vis waistcoat left over from my building company, if I can find it :whistling:and can always stick reflective tape on the back of the helmet.
I thought red might go better with white hair than fluoro yellow :ciggrin:especially as at the minute it's getting long enough for a pony tail.

Every time I suggest to the wife about getting a bike she says that she will have an ambulance following me, not because I will fall off but because of my health issues.

Now Bob all we need to see is a photo of you with the full lycra outfit, helmet and bike.:funny::funny::funny: second thoughts this is a family type forum:whistling::whistling::whistling:


At least you have gone for safety how about elbow and knee pads as the ground hurts

I think some helmets have cameras built in as well. Can't dispute a bit of video evidence especially if it has location recording software and date/time stamping.....It's a shame that we have to go to these extremes these days.

I bought an electric assist bike and it is brilliant. I don't go on the roads due to mad bastard drivers.
Parks are open but the car parks have been closed so I haven't used it for a while. I must check to see if that is still the case.
