Finish one of two pieces should have the second finished either tomorrow or the following day.
Still to give it a name. Inspired by Keith Tompkins from another site.

The spiral is Yew and the base is Oak scorched and lime waxed. sealed with sander sealer and finished with woodwax22.
Some very careful turning to match up parts. It stands 8 3/4" tall and 3" at its widest

Thank you everyone.

Super cool. Care to share a brief outline of your method Derek?

Put wood on lathe turn and apply finish is that brief enough Phil:funny::funny::funny:

To do the spiral I started with a sqaure of wood and cut it in two so that it is half the thickness. in my other post there is a photo of the part on the lathe but this diagram may explain how the 4 parts are extracted from the wood before assembly they need to be cut from the blanks that way so that the grain all lines up.

I've been off and looked at your other two posts again. Got it now. (Your drawing is crap by the way):frenchkiss:

(Sorry Derek - couldn't help myself. Wouldn't have said it if I didn't think you had a sense of humour)
