After Neil highlighting these blanks by George Watkins Pen blanks I thought it was worth a punt so bought a couple and here is the first on an Omega. It was remarked upon many times during the weekend whilst at a craft show. It didn't sell but brought several people by word of mouth to have a look who subsequently bought so has already made me money and I've still got it.

I very happily surprised at just how easy it was to turn as well. He gives full instructions with each blank on the use of various tools and I just used the skew from start to finish so that I didn't have to put too much heat in it sanding. I gave it a quick sand and burnish with shavings and then a few coats of ca and polish.

One thing I notice and have found on a few of the Omega kits is just how loose the fittings are sometimes and can push them in easily by hand so had to drop a blob of ca on to keep them in. Dan its worth having a look at the tolerances.

I bought #18 and #27 Alan, I'm not sure without a visit to the shed which one this is. I'll turn the other soon for sure.

It's a stunning blank but I'd be afraid of something going wrong and wasting £13.

I know what you mean Ray but it really wasn't much different from turning any other pen. You obviously have to watch that you don't put too much heat into it and realise that there is a transition from wood to acrylic but take it slow and you'll be allright... I will be getting some more for sure.

The pen looks very good in the photo but in the hand its pure magic.

I might try one . I can't see the wood on yours though. The thing that concerns me how to polish the wood part with friction polish, and polish the resin part with micromesh wet and dry, which is how I polish my acrylic pens. I really don't like using CA.

You get full instructions on how to turn and finish it with the pen Ray.
