You could cast a resin base into the hole....very on trend

Good to hear from you. Hope the van problem has been sorted.
I was thinking just that. I have a few ideas such as a leaf cast in clear resin. Will have to get the wood jaws out though, or more to the point
make 'em.

As you have found out [MENTION=1856]Frederick[/MENTION] when turning using a mortice that you can go through the bottom that is why it is very important to keep measuring Most of the time I use a tenon and then reverse chuck it and remove it.
A shame really as it looks like it was going to be a great bowl As Mark said either fill it with resin after cleaning the hole or use a piece of wood in a contrasting colour this makes it look like it was intentional

Thanks Derek, always a pleasure to hear from you.
I will put in another bottom. I have some ideas but will need some sort button jaws to hold the rim of the bowl. I do have a set of Axminster wood jaw plates but. as yet, not the ply to finish them. There is some 3/8ish MDF board in the workshop but not sure if that will be strong enough. Anyway, I will have to buy another set of jaw carriers. I will do all this next month.
