Having turned my first three acrylic Sierras (blanks from TB), the blue one looks great, but the pink one I can very obviously see the brass tube.

I realised (after lots of reading!) that I need to paint the tube before inserting, but, I have a couple of questions.

1. How do you choose the colour paint? I am tempted by white for the pink blank (003) but i am not certain.
2. Are we limited to primers - white, grey, black etc or can we use (say) silver paints?
3. When gluing the tube in, what to use? I have used CA so far, but am not sure how that will react with the paint.
4. Is the Halfords (I have a trade card) primer ok?

TIA

1. I use white primer for pretty much everything other than very dark or black blanks in which case I use matt black.

2. You could use any colour you wanted it doesn't have to be primer.

3. I use epoxy for all my tubes painted or not and that works fine, however i have not had any problem in the past when using CA either.

4. Halfords primer is fine.

My mrs used to enjoy glass painting but gave it up. Being the hoarder that I am the tubes of paint went in the store shed. Turned out very handy for painting tubes.

the choice of colour will greatly affect the look of the blank, white will lighten so a mid blue can go to a sky blue for example, black will do the opposite. I like to put red under pinks resins.

I use the halfords primers then spray a top colour if needed.

epoxy is by far the best choice of glue

1. How do you choose the colour paint? I go to the paint that I have that is the closest to the blank.I am tempted by white for the pink blank (003) but i am not certain. I Did two pink Divas one painted white and one black IMHO black looked better.
2. Are we limited to primers - white, grey, black etc or can we use (say) silver paints? What ever colours you have
3. When gluing the tube in, what to use? I have used CA so far, but am not sure how that will react with the paint. I always use Epoxy.

If you want to play with fire SWMBO nail varnish is just as good, but if you get caught make sure you have an answer.

Acrylic paint are good, the local £1 shop usually sels starter artist kits that are good and simple..

All of the above has been mentioned works, but I use Epoxy and have be known to mix a little acrylic paint in to the mix just to make sure the colours don't get scratched on inserting the blank..

Trial and error to find what you are happy with.
