I use acrylics, car white primer spray or anything that falls in my hands....permanent marker is good as well..

I also have some silver tubes as well to save painting, but it depends on the blank you are using..

Through my experience is avoid water based paints, simples....

My vote is for car spray primer (grey - cant get black) and then a sprasy with Halfords Matt Black. Car primer is designed to bond with metal and thereafter the halfords mat black is designed to bond with the primer. Short cuts and only putting the black on is an expensive short cut as the blank will scratch the paint off.

Not sure why you are painting the tubes but may I suggest you reverse paint the blank instead. If you use a transparent blank then the glue will still show thru. If you paint the blank you have a better chance of hiding those ugly glue marks. I use any acrylic paints for this but then again I use epoxy to glue my blanks in. CA is too brittle in my opinion. I will even add a bit of paint to the epoxy.

If I'd known this a year ago I might still make acrylics ... Nice tip, John.
