I had an interesting result with some blanks I cast and thought anyone wondering if they should paint the tube or the blank might find it informative.
1st ... paint the blank.
So I made a slab cast with baby pine cones in it. Came out nice and I cut it into blanks and proceeded to drill one and paint the blank.
Cap came out a treat but the nib section cracked on assembly, my fault.
So I cut another piece and drill and glued up, when I turned it I realised in my hast I had forgotten to paint the blank.
What a difference painting the blank had made.
So I had two halves of a pen that didn't match, I then cut 2 more blanks, painted the nib section and left the cap section as it was.
Here's the results, what a difference painting the blank made. Same slab, same colours and the blanks looked the same before I started.
The gold in the light one is actually gold colour, which stands out more because of the brass tube
Neat huh
