Hi Neil
l was only reading what some one had posted and what the maker of the table had called it so l don`t know where could l get some holey Yew?
This partially hollow log is a beautiful example of PECKY CYPRESS . This is actually a condition caused by a fungal attack that leaves long, narrow burrows or cavities in the wood. The fungus attacks mostly older cypress trees from what I call the "canapy" or "umbrella" down. Once the tree is cut down, or harvested, the fungal attack stops, leaving the beautiful, unique pecky patterns.
Pecky cypress was very much sought after and in demand years ago, and still is. I've seen pecky cypress used for things such as paneling, picture frames, cabinets, and furniture as well. It's very beautiful and I'd say it's sort of a legacy to the south! In all my years of finding and collecting cypress driftwood, I find that most all of the pieces with the pecky cypress markings are the extremely hard cypress, never the lightweight cypress. There are a number of offerings at any given time of pecky cypress boards or lumber in various sizes on eBay. Anything you make with this beautiful wood will become a treasured heirloom!
Thanks for reading & have a great day!
