Where do I go to buy top end pen blanks I'm not really into wood. Hybrid stabilised blanks may be. I don,t do facebook. I'm looking for quality blanks I don't mind paying the extra. But I need to be able to view them and buy them online not on facebook.

I’m sure that Bucks on here would also help.
Have a look at the bottom of the forum page, “seller forums”

Davey Gee at Penkitz and Bitz he has some you don't even have to turn....

Thank you for the offer but I do not do wood. I have had no success with wood at all. I can turn acrylic etc blanks with no problem and get a superb finish so for now wood is not an option

From the tree is interesting but his postage costs are to high.
I ordered a couple of figi blanks from axminster £1.00 postage.

I've deleted them for you Bill. When something like that happens, it' usually something local to your computer or device. Re-starting it and/or clearing the cache normally does the trick.

Hi Dave. I can sympathise with you regarding wod / acrylic turning. I prefer acrylics myself a whole lot. My problem was in getting a finish on the wood that I was happy with. I tried the CA approach but abandoned that after I got a set of bushings well glued in! I then reverted to lacquer and got much better finishes - but still nothing like the mirror finish that acrylics give you. Since joining this site I have read Phil's post on using a melamine finish (see the Pen Turning Forum) - and I am going to try that once I have got some family business out of the way and can get back into the garage! I have also got some Rustin's Plastic Coating that one guy posted about in here - and I will try that too. Not trying to influence you - just saying that maybe you'll feel like giving wood another go sometime - and if you do there is useful info here! In the meantime do what gives you the most pleasure - life's too short!!!

As Jersey Bill has said, wood can be more difficult than acrylic.....it has a grain, it has differing hardnesses sometimes in one piece.... Sharp tools, correct angles, the right speed.....but then if you can do acrylic you must be doing some of those right....
If you want to try wood again I would suggest a nice firm reasonable grain timber that's forgiving, maybe Olive or maple or plain beech.....if you PM me an address I will send you some Sierra tubes to turn.....just for practice....

A few random timber pens.814241299c (1).jpgDSCF8363.jpg

The finishes are normal for me one or two coats of CA.

Peter.

Recommend me some types of wood to try. Something with a bit of detail something different. I have been asked to turn some pens in wood for xmas presents so no rush to finish them.
