Can anyone please tell me what pen cases they use? I tend to use the Turners Retreat velvet boxes but it does push the price of my pens up as I don’t charge for them. They do protect the pen in the post though. There certainly are many cheaper case options out there but how good are they? Many thanks in advance.

I don't sell my pens at the moment mainly due to the fact that I have not made any since finishing the course I was on and then I will be starting my Christmas list, However all of the pens I will be making for Christmas will be going in some amazing looking wooden boxes and when the time comes that I will start to sell I will be hoping to strike a deal with them to continue doing so.

Have you messaged silver on these forums? that is where I get and hope to continue to get mine from. He is a great guy and does a great product, It would be wrong of me to talk about prices he charges as well as turn-around on orders.

In my view Nick presenting a wooden pen in a wooden box elevates it by so many levels but as the old saying goes "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

For normal sales I use a card box from Scott Walker, he laser engraved them with my logo and also cut the foam liners too. Various options for posh boxes but as above silver makes some stunning boxes

Thanks for the mention Gary Garno
CraftyNick it all depends on what you want to do with the “box” as you call it.

Packaging & Postage
For a simple packaging box then I don’t put them in a box, they go in a plastic sleeve with bubble wrap around them. Then in to a large letter postal box. All packaging is then disposed of once the pen has been received.

Gift box
This is a little better than the packaging, it can be in the form from a simple gift bag (the ones with handles), or the red and black acrylic cases through to the velvet pouches. Again tho 9 times out of 10 they gat disposed of after a while.

Presentation box
These are the better quality pen cases, from velvet lines and leather bound to wooden display/presentation boxes.
These tend to be used for long after the one has been given, either somewhere to keep the pen or as it’s usually often kept to store the pens/pencils in. For many, many years in some cases.

As for not charging for
The boxes” then you are going to fall down eventually and need to include the cost of the boxes in to your pen sale. Often a point where many loose money on their sales because of its.

The presentation boxes will often create a premium product and enable you to charge a much heightened price, marking up the box further to help your profit margin. But in reality you don’t just put a few £’s on them. You would mark the pen, set or whole package accordingly.

Beaufort ink have a good selection of off the shelf presentation boxes.

Thanks Garno.

I have tried wooden boxes before but i like my pens to be snug and they do tend to rattle around a bit in wooden boxes, although i agree they look nice.

All that said, i am a joiner cabinet maker and i should really make my own wooden boxes!!
