my recommendation, for a first couple of kitless is to do them as rollerballs, to get some practice. It will save you buying specialist taps- you need a section to barrel and a cap to barrel, or section and some drills.
I would splash the cash and get a refill and spring from beaufort ink- this way that you will get a top quality one, and t will cost you a couple of quid or so, plus postage.
This is what i dod for the march comp. it was a first kitless, and wasnt executed greatly, but it was great experience.
